Incorporates Music With Learning
- Major studies have substantiated that music is associated with increased long term memory and makes learning fun, easy, quick and highly enjoyable.
- The rhymes in this book/CD have been correlated with music and singing. This supportive combination, along with rhythm and beat, is invaluable to the beginning reader. As information is delivered
through music it is more likely to be encoded, or stored into long term memory. The information can later be recalled and mentally transferred, in order to assist learners in unlocking print in other
contexts.
Suggested Use for Sing - Along Nursery Rhymes
- Use these songs and rhymes for shared reading activities. For internalization purposes, as well as teaching points, each song and rhyme is modeled at least three times, starting with a slower tempo and
"talking" version, then graduating to faster tempos and sing-alongs. Finally, an orchestration of reading strategies can be culminated in the "The Anthology of Rhymes".
- Make transparencies of rhymes for use with the overhead projector, or place on charts for shared reading.
- Make individual song & rhyme books for students.
- Send copies home for homework activities
- Use the songs & rhymes for center activities.
Recorded drum beats, without melodies, are included on the CD to allow for the rhythmic exploration of other rhymes not found in this collection.
